Trying to do some research. If I buy a variable speed fuel pump, could I in theory wire it to the stock pump wiring?

Is the factory pump variable speed? I would guess that if there is NO return line, then it’s variable speed. In that case, I’d look at the factory wiring schematic. They would likely send a 0-5V signal (or something like that) back to the pump to tell the pump to vary the speed. Although I suppose they could just vary the 12V power...?
I know companies like Aeromotive sell pumps that can vary their speed using Aeromotive’s controller. But it’s the same idea IMO.

From what i've gathered so far, our pumps are cycled on and off, based from readings from the regulator. So i'm thinking in theory, if I trick the regulator into always asking for fuel, I could get the pump to work off existing wire.
