So, we bought a nice Action Clutch and new flywheel for our GS. But, we’ve never installed a clutch before. Any good “How-To” instructions or words of wisdom?

Rough, but here goes:
Basic: Jack the car up, remove the wheels. Now's a good time to do a trans oil change as well, so drain that sucker. Redline MT-90 or 75w-80 from the dealership are the 2 best goes. Do not use royal purple, it'll kill your synchros
1: Remove air intake 2: remove battery 3: remove battery tray 4: disconnect shift cables at the trans linkages (you'll see the bushings, unclip them here) 5: undo electrical plugs to the trans. There's one under the intake manifold that people commonly rip because they miss it, be careful of that. 6:Undo the axle nuts 7: Remove the clipers and brackets, and rotors (helpful) 8: Undo the large bolts connecting the strut to the... I can't remember exactly what. You want the hub assembly to be pulled off from the axles 9: Pop the axles out of the trans. I did it with 2 flat head screwdrivers in the end to pry both sides out at once. They'll pop in a very satisfying way. Now you can fully remove the axles 10: Put a jack with blocks of wood under the oil pan (wood to spread the load and not damage anything) 11: Undo the front motor/trans mount, and remove the subframe it's on (mount stays connected to the subframe) 12: Undo the rear motor/trans mount 13: Undo the bell housing bolts and starter motor 14: Pull the trans off. There's a spine from the engine into the trans, so pull it away from the engine towards the driver's side. Try not to let it hang like this without bell housing bolts, and try not to apply a twisting force 15: The trans is out! 16: Undo the clutch pressure plate bolts (should be very visible) 17: Remove old clutch 18: Remove and install new flywheel if you have one 19: Stick your clutch alignment tool in, and put your new clutch in place. Do up the clutch plate bolts. 20: Switch the old throwout bearing in the trans for the new one
Re assemble in reverse

If everything goes well, probably a 4 hour job. If everything goes as it probably will, 6 hours

Ok, so the bad news: I just didn’t have the time to do this myself. The good news: I had a local transmission shop install our new Action Clutch Stage 1 clutch along with a new Luk replacement flywheel. Clutch is made in America too (not China, for a change...). Info here: actionclutch.com/products/stage-1-mitsubishi-eclipse-2006-2012-2-4lHad a good 40 minute ride home and this clutch seems really great! Good strong hold, smooth engagement, and no chatter or drama. So far, I’m impressed.

Just be sure your son breaks it in nicely! A few hundred miles of not passing 3000rpm, and gentle throttle should help... Unless it's ceramic, then double it
