In the process of picking up a used head. Debating on whether to drop it off at a machine shop for a refresh or drop it off at a performance head shop for porting. Any one know if there are gains to be had by porting alone? I know there isn't any readily available internals for these engines. But I'm leaning towards keeping this engine NA. So any extra power is useful to me.

Most of the time porting increases the volume of the runners, which is typically useful for higher-RPM power. If you’re not doing cams, I would try to not increase runner volume, but focus on the valve throat area and cleaning things up to improve flow. Get a 3-angle valve job. I’d also shave a little off the head (0.030” or so?) to bump compression, as I’m assuming you will always run premium fuel. But that will add torque with no drawback...so a good move.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to upgrade the cam. But I cannot fathom spending $800 on a cam. Was hoping to port, polish, valve seat angle, and bowl. Just curious if it would be a benefit that would be noticed.

Well, if you’re still running the original, untouched, cylinder head that likely needs attention, then the difference to that should be noticeable. Versus a new stock head, the ported version is probably only worth 5-15 horsepower if you’re keeping the stock cam and depending on the quality of the port job. Most people do more harm than good by “hogging out” the runners. If you couple the mild port work, valve job, bowl work, and small compression bump vs your old heads I think you’ll be happy with it.

15hp would definitely be worth it. But along with a fresh head even if it broke even, I would likely feel a difference. Found a shop near me called Headworks. When I get the cylinder head, i'm going to bring it there and see what they say.
