Nah. You can do 300hp on a 500hp capable turbo just fine. It'll actually be less stress on the motor too. Just less responsive

I'm trying to find a Turbo that will easily handle 300 to 400hp. I definitly want quick spool to load the auto trans early with less late shock. So a GT25 will get me right where I want. Think I'm going to order the steam pipe version from RPW and have o2's bungs welded in.

GT28 is the smallest I'd say to go. Below that, you're just having high exhaust temperatures for no reason, as well as a dropoff in top end. A GT28 should be making your peak boost of probably 6-8psi at below 3000rpm. Later is safer on stock rods as well.

That works for me. Thank You.

I'm pretty decided, I think I'm gonna use a 500hp capable borg in my kit. It'll be safer on the stock motor than smaller turbos, and give room for growth if people want to put in rods. Pistons, I don't suspect they'll be much an issue if you have an EGR delete. Otherwise, cylinder 4 has been known to explode. It runs hotter than the rest according to every person with a 4G69 turbo engine who has used a heat gun on that exhaust runner (as tested when Alex blew up a piston, and went hunting for an answer on why)

Nice, So Definitely need an egr delete when going turbo. Borgs are are sweet.

It won't be one of their titanium wheeled super efficient double ceramic ball bearing turbos. It's gonna be one that has some lag built into it for engine safety reasons, and because I don't think I'll convince many people on a $3000 turbo to make 500hp vs a $1000 turbo to make 500hp

Yeah, I'm going with the ebay special. Down the road I might get a name brand one.

eBay special, GT35 then. Go big with eBay. It'll lag like crazy, but won't puke oil as much

Yeah, was originally looking at the GT35 Ebay special. Noticed the ebays have smaller wheels compared to name brand.

Typically they are, as well as they have lower flowing (less efficient) housings, and majorly, seal issues. If you want to run 5-10psi, go eBay all day long. If you want anything more, name brand is the reality, as they like to weep oil.
The eBay ones are laggy, which is good for a stock motor, and don't handle much boost, which a stock motor doesn't care for much anyway. So it's fine for stock. Same with your auto trans, it really hates high torque, so making peak power at ~7000rpm is in your best interest (revving higher, it also doesn't like)
225lb-ft of torque will get you 300hp at 7000rpm, which that trans should be happy to do. So a large-ish turbo, an evo intake, and a well flowing exhaust should bring you where you need to be

Only Downfall with the GT35 is i'll be spending more money on fabrication and external wastegate.

You may as well get one of the $150 eBay no name turbos. You'll probably be just as well off either way, as it seems neither can handle much boost, both have massive issues with oil seals, and both have issues with the shafts being unbalanced.
Reviews seem to show they're really low quality and the company will not replace any defective products anyway
On the plus side, if you get a cheap turbo the same size and orientation as a more expensive one, you can use it for mock-up purposes, then replace it for something proper when it lets go (when you want to up the power)

This is the one I use www.cxracing.com/turbocharger/turbocharger-ball-bearing-turbo/TRB-T04B-63-RR?sort=p.price&order=ASCNot the cheapest, but has worked perfect for over a year now, no oil leaks or boost leaks And definitely no lag, I can punch it at 3000 rpm and have full boost Think I want to get bigger turbo next year so will have alittle more lag, But for stock Block and running 10-11 psi It is a good beginner turbo Also to add side note, it comes with 3 in V band exhaust, pictures are not correct on link
