Hi Everyone,
Finally got a 4G after much research and reading of all of the how to and FAQ threads on here (and club4g) that made it much easier to figure out what to look for when buying a used Eclipse and also deciding on what mods to plan for based on what I want to do with the he car. I can't thank all of you enough for the knowledge you've provided and I'm excited to finally be a part of the group!
I've got a list of mods planned now that I've got the car but first I'll introduce the vehicle as well as a brief description of what I want out of the car:
'07 Spyder GS (Satin Mesai;bone stock)
Mileage: 142,000
I strictly plan on making this my daily driver. I have no intentions of racing or tracking the car. I just want to make the car fun (and safe) to drive. That being said, after reading all of the mod threads, I do want to make a few upgrades to improve performance and handling (and also to handle NY winter weather). While the mileage is a bit high, I know the car has been well taken care of by the previous owner (via service records and a pre-purchase inspection), timing belt and water pump have been replaced, and I know these cars can go well past 200k with proper care. Below is a list of planned mods:
DC Sports Cold Air Intake (a little oomph to the engine for cheap)
Underdrive Pulley
Stop Tech Slotted Rotors and brake pads
Eibach Pro Kit Lowering Springs (that wheel gap...yuck)
Replace stock struts with KYB Excel G (they're on sale!)
Tanabe Strut Tower Bar
Energy Suspension Motor Mount Bushings
Upgrade Front and Rear Sway Bars
Thoughts on this list? I figured these would help add a bit to engine power and also help make the car a more enjoyable ride. Right now, an exhaust/header upgrade is not in the cards (subject to change if I keep rèading more threads though lol). I do have two questions:
1. Since I don't want to stiffen the ride and feel every pothole in the area, is the spring/upgraded strut combo the right move or should I fork over the $$$ for coilovers?
2. I was also considering painting the stock wheels black. I'm not sure if I like the silver or black wheels better to contrast the Satin Mesai paint. Wondering what the consensus is on here lol. I plan on painting the calipers too, so this may decide what color I'd paint those as well.
I really appreciate everyone's contributions to the forum as it really helped make the purchase and mod decisions easier. I'll definitely post pics once I've cleaned her up a bit (been sitting in a garage a couple months). Glad to finally be a part of the club!
