So I’m trying to figure out the likely problem so I can brace myself for how much the fix is gonna cost me lol, but here’s the story:
Took the car (07 gs auto) to Midas to get an oil change (of course I had no warning light issues beforehand). A day later, I noticed the oil light come on when I braked and came to a stop. When I accelerated, the light went off. Naturally, I assumed Midas screwed something up so I took the car back to them to look at it. They did their checks and came back to say that my oil pressure sensor was corroded and that may be a part of a number of issues but that it could be as simple as replacing the sensor as it was corroded (they did bring me out to the car to show me the corroded part). So I had them replace the part and they said to check to see if there were any issues when driving.
Now here’s the “fun” part:
After replacing the sensor, now when I accelerate (over 1500rpm) the oil light comes on! Happens whether I’m in neutral revving the engine or in drive. Ironically enough it goes off when I brake and come to a stop unlike before. The guys as Midas seem dumbfounded, as the engine isn’t making any odd noises, the oil level is full (no leaks), and they test drove it to make sure the engine is running well. Any ideas? For some context I’ll lay out the circumstances for the experts on here to diagnose:
- mileage 142,700 (timing belt was replaced at 105,000, and in good shape)
- there’s no engine knocking, tapping, or odd noises
- 5w20 synthetic oil was used for the oil change
- engine appears to be running well, no jerking or noticeable movements other than the car shifting gears
- car temperature is normal (no obvious signs of overheating)
- no signs of burning oil
I’m already bracing for the worst (that I’ll need a new oil pump), but was wondering if anyone had any insight on anything else that may be causing this (Midas screwups, faulty new sensor giving off bad readings, etc. I’d rather not throw money at the issue if something simpler (and cheaper is the culprit). Is it strange that I saw no oil light at all before the oil change? Any help trying to get to the bottom of this is appreciated.
